About the Position: The Health Science Department at California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in public health at the Assistant Professor level.
Area of focus within public health is open, but we are especially interested in applicants whose research, teaching, and service demonstrates expertise in health equity, health disparities, and/or epidemiology.
Applicants’ work examining public health issues may do so from a population health, community health, institutional health, health administration, healthcare organization, and/or health management perspective.
The Health Science BS program is one of the largest undergraduate degree programs at CSUCI and offers a curriculum designed to provide students a broad overview of health and healthcare, preparing them both for direct entrance into health-related careers or for graduate training in health professions.
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about working with interdisciplinary colleagues to prepare tomorrow’s health professionals with exemplary education, and with the ability to contribute through research, teaching, and public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the department and university.
We are a growing department and are developing new master’s programs including an MHA (with a Certificate in Gerontology option) and MPH, with anticipated start dates of Fall 2025 and 2027.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative group of faculty engaged in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary projects across the university as well as with healthcare providers and community-based organizations in the region.
Faculty in our department are expected to teach and/or develop introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in the curriculum (e.
g.
, Public Health Administration), as well as electives in their area of expertise; mentor and advise students from diverse backgrounds and from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups; assist with curriculum design; maintain an active scholarly agenda; and contribute to the growth and expansion of the department and the university through meaningful service activities.

Minimum Degree Requirements: An earned doctorate in public health, population health, or a closely related field with a specialization in public health or population health, including but not limited to, epidemiology, healthcare management, healthcare administration, health policy, health services, health economics, public administration with a public health focus, social work, community health, global health, or environmental health.
Applicants completing doctoral coursework and exams (ABD) will be considered but must have completed their degree by August 1, 2024.
Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in public health, population health, or a closely related field with a specialization in public health or population health, including but not limited to, epidemiology, healthcare management, healthcare administration, health policy, health services, health economics, public administration with a public health focus, social work, community health, global health, or environmental health.

Demonstrated potential to teach at the undergraduate level and engage a diverse population of students that are largely first-generation, Pell Grant-eligible, and Hispanic/Latino.
CSUCI is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI), with an anticipated teaching load of 4 courses per semester (3-3 during the first 2 years of appointment).
Record of scholarly publication or progress towards publication in the area of public health with the potential to involve undergraduate students in mentored research.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong record of teaching as instructor of record, particularly in areas related to public health.
Record of scholarly publications in public health with emphasis on health equity, health disparities, and/or epidemiology.
A well-developed plan for pursuing externally funded research grants.
Demonstrated ability or potential to integrate diverse experiences into instructional methods and research tools.
Ability or potential to provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse populations and intellectual interests.
Ability or potential to teach across the existing Health Science curriculum.
Ability to help grow and develop curricula in the areas of public health, population health, health equity, health disparities, and/or epidemiology.
Experience engaging with local communities through research and/or service (or ability to do so).
Record of scholarly publication in public health with emphasis on health equity, health disparities, and/or epidemiology.
Experience incorporating undergraduate students in research (or ability to do so).
Responsibilities: Focus on excellence in teaching across the curriculum in Health Sciences.
Conduct scholarship and/or creative activities in public health, establishing a productive research portfolio that results in published work.
Provide service to the Health Science Program, University, profession, and broader community.

The anticipated, equity-minded starting salary for this position is $6,700 - $7,500 (monthly).
