The ideal candidate will have community service experience working to immunize indigenous communities, and be fluent in English, Spanish and Mixteco.
EDUCATION/BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Incumbents may be eligible for an educational incentive of 2.
5%, 3.
5%, or 5% based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification.
Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.
DEPARTMENT / AGENCY: Health Care Agency - Public HealthHealth Education Assistant I is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies for these positions only.
There is currently one (1) Regular Fixed-Term position.
NOTE: A Fixed Term position is a position designated by the Director-Human Resources or Board of Supervisors to which persons may be appointed for fixed terms not to exceed three (3) years.
Fixed Term employees are eligible for the same benefits and compensation as Regular employees.

) EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Participates in ongoing activities designed to inform the target population of health services;Translates in English, Spanish and Mixteco during community events;Recruits volunteers and helps carry out specific community information efforts for the promotion of special clinics, programs and activities;Provides assistance as needed in development of printed material and carries out pre-testing protocol for evaluation of proposed printed material;Works with community groups and agencies and other professional staff in planning, development and implementation of specific public health activities and programs (e.

, pap smear clinics, special immunization clinics, adolescent health conferences, anti-smoking groups, tobacco control (policy) education, and other innovative educational activities for contemporary health problems);Participates as a member of voluntary agency health coalitions for collaborative effort;Helps in the orientation, training and supervision of health aids;Assists in conducting community surveys for health education and health policy programs;Conducts individual and group discussions to obtain community reaction to health education programs;Prepares reports, graphs, tracking sheets, and responds to inquiries verbally and in writing;Assists community health services in education; andPerforms other duties as assigned.

Applicants must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
NOTE: If there are three (3) or fewer qualified applicants, an oral exam will not be conducted.
