_The Coalition is a 501(C)3 Non-Profit Organization, and we aim to improve the quality of life and create hope for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Our ultimate goal is to provide victims with alternative ways of coping with physical and/or emotional abuse through education, counseling, shelter, non-judgmental emotional support, and housing assistance.
_ *Summary of Position* The Youth Mentor will provide support, mentorship, and facilitate group training in the ARISE curriculum to offenders in the Ventura County Juvenile Hall Facility.
This may include curbing recidivism, increasing self-esteem, increasing school attendance, decreasing substance abuse, and reducing gang association or involvement.
The Youth Mentor will attend weekly team meetings, and work as a member of a team along with the assigned Juvenile Hall Facility staff members.
The delivery of services will include, but not be limited to, the following: _*Fundamental Job Requirements*_ · Supervise youth detained in the Juvenile Hall Facility · Act as a mentor to youth on assigned caseload · Connect youth with community-based resources · Collaborate with Juvenile Hall Facility staff to plan and execute activities · Attend ARISE training and facilitate ARISE curriculum (life skills for at-risk youth) · Complete and compile statistical reports of progress · Attend weekly meetings with manager and team · Provide administrative support as needed · Perform other duties as assigned by Management Team · *Bilingual in English and Spanish is required* _*Schedule*_ · The schedule for this position is *Monday - Friday, 11:30am - 8pm; 40 hours per week*.
· Arriving for your shift on time is an essential requirement.
· This position *is *eligible for overtime benefits.
_*Experience Requirements*_ · High School Diploma or GED *· Some experience working with “at-risk” youth - please list this experience on your resume or in a cover letter to be considered* · Lived experience in the justice system desired _*Certifications*_ · May be required to obtain Domestic Violence Counselor certification under California Evidence Code 1037.
1 within one year of hire date.
· May be required to obtain Sexual Assault Counselor certification under California Evidence Code 1305.
2 within one year of hire date.
· Must attend our LGBTQ+ 101 Training within 6 months of hire date _*Knowledge Base/Skills*_ · Interpersonal qualities to be relatable and build rapport with youth.
· Basic computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and general office equipment.
· Ability to communicate and write clearly and professionally is required.
· The ability to demonstrate navigating crisis and solving problems independently and using one’s own initiative, using best judgment and critical thinking skills is a requirement.
· Must utilize assertiveness, professionalism and non-violent communication when handling issues with youth, staff and community members.
*OTHER INFORMATION* · *Must pass extensive background check conducted by CFH and County of Ventura Probation Agency* · *The majority of the fundamental job requirements occur inside the Ventura County Juvenile Hall Facility* · Coalition for Family Harmony may be able to accommodate physical requirements upon request.
· Travel may be required for this position.
Modes of transportation expected are by car.
Valid driver's license and auto-insurance required.
