2002 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner SRS 2.
7L 4x2 Automatic
Mileage: 338,140
Clean California title.
The truck ran great until early January of this year.
We originally thought new spark plugs would fix the issue due to the P0300 (Random Misfire Detected) engine code.
The spark plugs were replaced on 1/10.
10 days later we got P0300 (Random Misfire Detected) and P0301 (Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected) codes.
The mechanic says the engine needs a new head gasket or the cylinder head may need to be replaced.
The truck has not moved since being towed home on 1/20.
After siphoning coolant out of cylinder #1, re-installing the sparkplug and ignition coil, it runs well but has a lot of white smoke out of the tail pipe.
It is not recommended to run it like this as it could destroy the emissions equipment.
My wife is the second owner of this Tacoma.
She bought it back in 2007 with ~60,000 miles on it.
Most of the miles are from highway/freeway driving as she commutes a lot for work.
It’s a great truck and I wish we could keep it, but we have too many projects at this point.
It has always had regular maintenance and oil changes.
It has always run great (until now) and the transmission shifts well.
The frame is immaculate as this truck has always been in the dry southern California climate and has never been abused.
The body is very nice.
All original body panels, accident free, no repaints except for the paint pen touchup I’ve done on the front of the hood, and there are some door dings.
AC and heat work well.
Tires have 7/32” of tread, which is right about 50%.
