The City of Oxnard's Public Works Department, Environmental Resources Division, is seeking a MRF Supervisor to oversee the recycling and other post-collection activities in the recycling center.
WHAT YOU'LL DO: Oversee a team of dispatchers, sorters, temporary workers, and other equipment operators responsible for efficiently operating the recycling center.
Work with the MRF Manager to implement tactical initiatives to drive functional excellence and budget achievement.
Ensure adherence to all accident prevention programs and lead operations to ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, operating, regulatory, accounting, ethics, and other standards.
Work to remove unsafe conditions or situations from the recycling center, recycling post-collection activities, and the Buyback and ABOP center.
Partner with the MRF maintenance department to ensure all equipment remains in working order and in compliance with safety standards.
Oversee effective safety and accident prevention programs to ensure all reasonable actions are taken to prevent accidents and injuries; ensure a safe and productive work environment for all employees; implement and maintain an effective loss control and safety program.
Resolve unusual service requests, equipment breakdowns, and schedule changes with timely communications to all stakeholders.
Establish productivity goals where needed, ensure adherence to operating standards, and manage labor hours.
Build and develop talent on the team, understand employees’ career goals, and provide coaching to prepare employees for advancement within the division and/or City.
Payroll/Classification Title: Maintenance Crew SupervisorSUPERVISION EXERCISED/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Incumbents supervise paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.
Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from the Maintenance Specialist, Senior in that it provides direct supervision of assigned crews, staff and/or first-level supervisors.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES (This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.
)Supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures; ensures adherence with safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations.
Plans, oversees and reviews maintenance and operations work of assigned crews in the self-haul, tipping floor, MRF recycling, and maintenance, refuse/recycling/green waste collection areas; provides support by performing advanced-level maintenance and operations work; performs inspections to review safety, work quality and scheduling.
Serves as a technical resource and assists in the training and development of staff on equipment, safety and operational practices and procedures; responds to inquiries and addresses service concerns and issues.
Maintains and oversees inventory of materials, tools and supplies; researches product and expense information; initiates replacement of required inventory; prepares, reviews and maintains reports, schedules, work orders, records and documentation related to assigned operational area.
Prepares and submits budget recommendations and monitors expenditures; may identify required capital improvements and work to secure funding; may administer contracts.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
