Manager, Strategic Planning & Operations Live What you will do Let’s do this! Let’s change the world! In this vital role, you will be a member of the Engineering Strategic Planning & Operations (SPO) team.
SPO is a selection of business, advisory, and risk experts who elevate Engineering’s impact and performance by using a broad set of skills - both strategic and technical - to guide leadership, implement priority efforts, manage risk posture, and advance the organization’s culture, communication, and careers.
We operate as the internal management consulting arm of Global Engineering to enable strategic objectives and deliver business results.
Engineering plans, designs, operates and maintains Amgen's global infrastructure through managing ~$1B in capital projects annually.
Additionally, we own Environmental Health and Safety as well as Amgen's Sustainability program which strives to be carbon neutral by 2027.
The SPO team handles the Strategies, Financials, Business Performance, OE, Risk, Compliance, and Career Development for the department which consists of the following functions: Engineering Technical Authority Global Capital Project Management Project Controls and Strategy Global Facilities Operations Environmental Health, Safety, Sustainability Strategic Planning & Operations Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Primary responsibility initially includes serving as the Engineering Training Program Lead Lead improvement optimization opportunities for digital advancements Understand and support mitigating risk by designing and implementing processes that ensure compliance (SOX and GxP) through lead training programs, management review, audit / inspection readiness and response, property loss prevention (physical risk) to Amgen’s operations Lead cross functional teams to maintain a compliant network, resolve issues, and share standard processes Serve as the point of contact for training metrics and data analysis Further areas of responsibilities for development longer term include: Strategy: Support/Lead the development and implementation of strategy, transformation, innovation, operational excellence and continuous improvement efforts across all aspects of Engineering; including technologies, processes, and people People/Culture: partner on the planning, organizing, and completing activities related to recruiting, developing, and retaining staff through enabling a highly engaged, diverse, and performing organization Analysis: leverage data and a consistent process to assess needs, develop options, make recommendations on next steps, and flex to implement when appropriate.
Including preparing and delivering executive level presentations that drive decision making at the highest levels of Engineering and Operations Support Engineering assessments, technical feasibility, lifecycle impact, and cost analysis of potential Engineering projects, e.

Act as the central hub for cross-functional communication and planning efforts to ensure connection and integration across all of Engineering (and beyond) for various initiatives and projects.

Basic Qualifications: Doctorate degree OR Master’s degree and 2 years of business analysis, strategy, risk, compliance experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of business analysis, strategy, risk, compliance experience OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of business analysis, strategy, risk, compliance experience OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of business analysis, strategy, risk, compliance experience Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Biotech within Operations and Engineering Advancement Knowledge of GMP/ GLP regulatory requirements and Quality Management processes Strong skills for data visualization and analytics using tools such as Tableau or Smartsheet or PowerBI Experience having direct interactions with regulatory agencies Experience in GMP Manufacturing, GMP Maintenance or Quality Experience with risk and compliance management GMP Training requirement experience Experience in a proactive setting, being the strategic thinker for innovative projects Versatile and agile leader who can flex across various subject areas and priorities within the team Experienced leader with track record of developing successful teams and relationship building across functions In-depth knowledge of Biotech industry, engineering, data analysis, and competitive landscape Strong executive presence, technical, and business acumen to drive strategy, decision making, and implementation Comfortable owning and resolving complex challenges, independent problem solving, and raising as appropriate to senior leaders Ability to effectively communicate with varied client base and all levels of the organization Demonstrated understanding/experience of Continuous Improvement methodologies and tools: Lean, Six Sigma Thrive What you can expect of us As we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for our teammates’ professional and personal growth and well-being.
