In this vital role you will be responsible for leading integrated corporate affairs for our emerging obesity portfolio.
This role will report directly to the VP Corporate Affairs, Science, and Innovation, and is responsible for shaping and leading the integrated corporate affairs strategy for obesity, including communications, patient advocacy and digital communications.
This position will serve as the senior Corporate Affairs member of the Obesity cross-functional leadership team.
The position will be based in the US, with expectation of travel to Thousand Oaks Headquarters, domestic and international congresses, and key events.
The Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, will be broadly responsible for developing and leading the global communication, launch and engagement strategy for Amgen’s obesity portfolio—both internally and externally.
Given the scale of the obesity programs, complexity of landscape and potential impact of therapeutic options, the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs will play a key role in shaping and executing an innovative and integrated Corporate Affairs strategy in alignment with the obesity portfolio priorities, from pipeline development through launch.
The scope includes research, project management, strategic analysis and preparing a communication strategy for key data milestones, external stakeholders (i.
e.
, patients and policymakers), media, and Amgen employees.
The role will engage directly with the Obesity portfolio lead and Vice President Corp Affairs in scoping, assessing, and delivering on these projects.
This includes building and leading a cross-sectional team of communications, digital communications, and patient advocacy, working to deliver on key data, regulatory and launch milestones, environmental readiness, strategic narrative, issues management and opportunistic execution in a fast-paced and highly dynamic therapeutic category.
The Executive Director will bring experience in obesity / cardiometabolic disease, creativity, communication leadership and external engagement skills, people management, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to engage and lead at the appropriate altitude.
This role requires fluency with digital technologies and tools to deliver messages in multiple formats (social media, written communications, video, use of generative AI, etc.
) and an acumen in navigating external stakeholders to form strategic coalitions and engagements in a space that is being shaped in real time.
The Executive Director will be able to effectively blend marketing and communications tactics, together with a cadre of patient advocacy, media relations, policy, and value and access aptitude to develop and deploy targeted and impactful communications, engagements and awareness that slice through a very crowded landscape with precision and staying power.
This role will involve regular interactions with cross-functional business leaders, media, the Corporate Affairs Leadership Team, CEO Staff as well as members of their functional teams.

Basic Qualifications: Doctorate degree & 6 years of Corporate Affairs experience OR Master’s degree & 10 years of Corporate Affairs experience OR Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of Corporate Affairs experience AND 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in the fields of obesity, diabetes and/or cardiovascular disease 15 years’ experience in Corporate Affairs related positions with increasingly progressive and impactful roles in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or other industry area with regulatory oversight Corporate Affairs thought leadership and the ability to build immediate credibility with the senior management team and the organization.

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.
S.
is $278,099 to $321,761.
