The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for securing profitable business for the Branch/Company through proper planning, adequate customer coverage, effective sales presentations, thorough understanding of competitor’s position, and continuous follow-up before and after the sale.
Conducts studies of assigned territory, evaluates product population, identifies new potential customers and their equipment needs, and emphasizes the advantage of engaging with the Company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Secures orders from existing and potential customers by means of visiting the customer’s facility, jobsite or contacting them by phone/email.
Establishes professional customer/vendor relationships with appropriate customer personnel (purchasing, engineering, project management, quality assurance, upper management, and other key personnel).
Secures opportunities to quote on customer requirements.
Helps customers solve problems, provides technical assistance as needed, assists in making job estimates, and keeps customers up to date on new developments.
Sees that equipment is professionally delivered and meets all conditions of the sale.
Takes action to render prompt service in case of additional needs or deficiencies.
Follows up, by phone, email, or visit, on quotations submitted to customers.
Use Salesforce CRM to submit weekly activity/call reports concerning customer-related activities for quotes, orders, and problems concerning customer/vendor relationships.
Follows up on all leads, contract lettings, and inquiries.
Develops and implements a plan of action.
Provides lost business reports weekly or as required.
Provides territory sales forecast monthly, or as required.
Works closely with the Branch Manager, District Manager, District Sales Manager, Finance, Credit Department, or any other related departments regarding customer accounts.
This may include but is not limited to following up on unpaid services rendered.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advises Branch, District and Corporate of all changes in territory which can affect Company success.
Assists in setting up and staffing booths at trade shows exhibits, demonstrations, and meetings as required.
Performs any other appropriate duties as assigned by the Branch Manager, District Leadership or Corporate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Proven ability to manage sales and profits vs.
forecasts and goals.
Good “people skills” and ability to maintain customer satisfaction.
Proven ability and initiative to “cold call” and establish new accounts.
Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, self-starter, sense of urgency, personable, extroverted personality, and well-organized.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel at least 50% of the time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree and at least three years outside sales experience in the construction industry are preferred.
Knowledge of equipment rental industry preferred.
